Shane McInroe
Shane is passionate about the rights of disabled people and wants to see the EGL principles put into practise
Born in Greymouth, Shane split his school years between the West Coast and Christchurch.
At Greymouth High, Shane studied one NCEA subject whereas his experience at Mairehau High School in Christchurch was quite different. It was a small family-oriented environment where everyone seemed to know each other and he says he felt well supported to sit NCEA levels one and two.
Shane is passionate about the rights of disabled people and was on the governing committee of the Inclusive Education Action Group.
In 2015, he was invited to represent People First on Christchurch's Enabling Good Lives (EGL) Local Advisory Group. He’s developed a good understanding of EGL principles and is optimistic health, disability and education systems will be greatly improved through a more collaborative approach.
Shane is a member of the People First Christchurch Local Group.
He represents NEGL on the Waitaha Enabling Good Lives Regional Leadership group.
He represents people with learning disability on:
- SAMS Board
- Te Whatu Ora, Waitaha Disability Steering Group
- Te Poutāhū Curriculum Refresh
Shane was keen to become a member of the co-design group because he wanted to see the EGL principles put into practise. Shane was invited to represent people with learning disability on the National Enabling Good Lives Leadership Group early in 2018 and is enjoying this new role.
